Chris Longenecker, MD

Christopher T. Longenecker, MD is a non-invasive cardiologist and Professor in the Division of Cardiology and Department of Global Health at the University of Washington School of Medicine. He holds the Werner E. Samson Endowed Professorship in Cardiology. He is the inaugural Director of the UW Global Cardiovascular Health Program, where he oversees an extensive NIH and foundation-funded program of research focused on mechanisms and prevention of cardiovascular disease in people living with HIV, implementation science to improve rural cardiovascular care in the USA, and rheumatic heart disease. Clinically, he attends on the Harborview cardiology consultative service and is director of a unique HIV-Cardiology clinic within the Madison Clinic at Harborview.
As Principal Investigator of the American Heart Association’s Rural PRO-CARE Health Equity Research Network, Dr. Longenecker’s team coordinates 5 rural cardiovascular service delivery projects around the country. These projects are incorporating health service delivery innovations from other global contexts to improve cardiovascular health in diverse rural US communities.
