Sophia Ambruso, DO

Dr. Ambruso is a clinician educator and nephrologist with Idaho Nephrology Associates. She graduated from Kansas City University Medical School and completed an Internal Medicine residency at the University of Washington, Boise campus. She completed her nephrology fellowship at the University of Colorado Anschutz Campus, where she stayed on for 7 years, gaining Associate Professor of Medicine rank. She returned to Boise, a place she loves, and wishes to continue raising her family here. Her main passions are patient care and medical education. In nephrology, Dr. Ambruso’s clinical expertise include CKD, cardiac-kidney-metabolic disease, fluids/electrolytes/stones and hypertension. She is also actively involved in medical education as it intersects with digital and social media and is passionate about the development of free and open access medical education (FOAMed). She is the creator and animator of the ABC Kidney, a kidney physiology educational website in development. She is the associate editor of visual and social media for KI Reports and is chief editor of the CME-accredited KI Reports’ educational blog page, called KI Reports Community. She is the co-creator and cohost of the Kidney Essentials podcast, releasing quarterly podcasts discussing salient nephrologic topics tailored to medical students, residents and all nephrocurious practitioners. Finally, Dr. Ambruso is one of the 'filtrates' on Freely Filtered, a podcast that discusses recent NephJC articles, which reaches audiences internationally.
