Shalana Bonar, BAHD, CHIS, idABA, CHW

My name is Shalana Bonar, and I am a dedicated Behavioral Health professional with more than 20 years of experience supporting individuals, families, and communities across Idaho and the Inland Northwest. With over 18 years of community‑based work in case management, care coordination, and advocacy, I bring deep compassion, cultural awareness, and a relationship‑centered approach to every role I serve.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in human development and psychology from Washington State University and am currently enrolled in the Community Health Worker Behavioral Health Apprenticeship through Idaho State University. I am also a certified Child Habilitative Intervention Specialist and an independent provider.
I currently serve as the Field Tribal Community Health Representative for North Idaho at UnitedHealthcare Community & State, where I partner closely with tribal communities to promote health equity, improve access to care, remove systemic and individual barriers, and strengthen overall well‑being. My work is grounded in trust, collaboration, and an unwavering respect for the unique needs of tribal members across the region.
I remain actively engaged with numerous coalitions and community‑based organizations and am proud to be a Dementia Friends Idaho Champion. I am also collaborating with Panhandle Health to help launch a diabetes program in North Idaho specifically designed for tribal members. I am involved with numerous Diabetes and metabolic diseases organizations as well.
Outside of my professional work, I treasure my life as a wife and a mother to my wonderful 10‑year‑old son. I enjoy spending time outdoors, mountain biking, and loving on my animals—my German Shepherd, Chip; my cats, Tux and Johnny; and our family beta fish, Potato. I’m also a proud Seahawks fan with a special love for penguins.
My time, talent, heart and treasure are dedicated to making a meaningful difference. I am committed to providing high‑quality, nurturing care to the members I serve and continuously strive to help make Idaho a healthier and happier place to live.
