Robert Wood, PhD

Dr. Robert Wood (Bob) received his PhD in Kinesiology from Louisiana State University in 1996. His initial appointment was also at LSU where he conducted most of his funded research with a focus on functional lifespan. There, he was a founding member of the Life Course and Aging Center that was part of over $10 million in funded research during his 11 years there. It was during this time that Dr. Wood enjoyed success publishing over 50 scientific manuscripts related to the physiologic consequences of aging and the benefits of exercise in slowing age-related functional decline. In 2006-2009, Dr. Wood elected to change his focus to a more administrative capacity. During this period, he spent three years at Husson University in Bangor, Maine, helping the university transition their physical therapy program from a master’s to a doctoral level. In 2009, Dr. Wood received an appointment as Head of the Department of Kinesiology and Dance at New Mexico State University where he led efforts to bring a Kinesiology PhD program to what was previously a service department. More recently, 2018, he accepted an appointment as a professor in the College of Health Sciences at Boise State University, where he has served as Director of the School of Allied Health Sciences for 8 years, and now serves as acting director of the echocardiography program in the School of Medical Imaging and Radiologic Sciences. Despite many years in administrative roles, Dr. Wood stays active in scholarship and is currently pursuing community programs to reduce falls and improve cognition among older adults.
