Nicole L. Thurston, MD, is a psychiatrist who has practiced across the full range of psychiatric care in Idaho including inpatient, outpatient private practice, addiction medicine, and consultation-liaison work — before spending 14 years as the first psycho-oncologist at St. Luke's Cancer Institute, later serving as Medical Director of Supportive Oncology. Her work sits at the interface of psychiatry and the traditional house of medicine, grounded in a strong belief in mind-body medicine. Triple board-certified in Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine, and Hospice & Palliative Medicine, she holds a Master of Science in Palliative Care from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, where her capstone research examined novel therapeutic approaches to distress across the cancer trajectory. Her clinical interests center on neuroplasticity and modalities that help patients align choices with their deepest values. Guided by a belief in mental health parity, she also enjoys mentoring learners across disciplines. She is a curious clinician who cares about preserving dignity in healthcare for patients and clinicians alike.

Outside of medicine, she is married and a parent to three children and bonus-mom to four, all in various stages of launching into the world. She's returned lately to old loves: reading literature, viewing art in various forms, and writing. She loves learning new languages, meeting people from other parts of the world, and spending as much time outdoors away from technology as possible.
