Culinary Medicine Learning Objectives:
This presentation will focus on nutrition and exercise counseling in the primary care setting for patients with type 2 diabetes. It will provide an in depth look into nutrition, ways to incorporate nutrition and exercise counseling in primary care visits and provide strategies to incorporate healthy lifestyle changes for patients with T2DM in resource limited areas including rural areas.
- Understand the basics of nutrition in Type 2 Diabetes including macronutrients, micronutrients, glycemic index, and various food groups.
- Identify the challenges of addressing nutrition and exercise in T2DM primary care and resource limited areas.
- Discuss innovative ways to implement counseling regarding nutrition and exercise in visits and within the community.
