Overview:

  • Describe the historical recommendations for delaying allergenic food introduction and how these practices contributed to rising food allergy rates.
  • Summarize the key outcomes of major clinical trials, including the LEAP, EAT, and LEAP-On studies.
  • Identify updated recommendations from major guideline bodies, including the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, & Immunology (AAAAI), the American College of Allergy, Asthma, & Immunology (ACAAI), and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).
  • Outline practical strategies for initiating early food exposures and maintaining continued, age-appropriate allergen introduction in infants.
  • Differentiate recommendations for allergenic food introduction based on infant risk profiles (e.g., severe eczema, egg allergy, or no risk factors).

The target audience includes primary care providers (MD, DO, PA, NP, etc.), but all clinicians are welcome.
