This training aims to equip pharmacists with essential knowledge and resources for managing HIV prevention and care through Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and comprehensive HIV/STI clinical practices. It will begin with an overview of HIV and AIDS, including prevalence in the U.S., and will cover the mechanism, effectiveness, and best practices surrounding PrEP. The session will also explore available PrEP medications, providing guidance on how to choose the best option for patients based on cost, side effects, and clinical factors. It will focus on the role of pharmacists in HIV prevention and STI care, offering insights into credentialing, CDC guidelines, and essential training for running a successful PrEP program. Lastly, this talk will cover key concepts and terms related to populations disproportionately affected by HIV and identify strategies for creating a supportive environment for those populations in healthcare settings.
