Substance use disorders (SUDs) impact millions of Americans and cost more than $740 billion annually in healthcare expenses, lost workplace productivity and crime-related costs. In 2019, the CDC reported an average of 130 opioid-related deaths every day in the U.S.—more deaths than from car accidents or gun violence. ECHO Idaho’s Substance Use Disorders series is designed to help counselors, prescribers, and other clinicians provide high-quality, whole-patient care for individuals with SUDs, including opioid use disorder and chronic pain. Through hour-long, virtual sessions, participants will learn best practices in SUD treatment and management, receive detailed feedback on complex patient cases, and collaborate with peers across the state to identify effective approaches and resources for advancing patient care. Each session features a specialist panel of interdisciplinary subject matter experts in addiction medicine, psychiatry, nursing, pharmacy, social work, counseling, and peer recovery—creating a comprehensive learning environment that supports both behavioral health and medical perspectives in treating SUDs
